Solidworks includes sheet metal specific features so you can create a part as sheet metal without having to convert it to sheet metal.
Start sheet metal part solidworks.
Select a face as the fixed face for the sheet metal part.
In the propertymanager under bend parameters.
Set the sheet thickness and default bend radius.
Create a part by sketching the part profile then extruding a thin feature part.
The name of the face is displayed in the fixed face or edge box.
When it comes to creating a sheet metal part in solidworks you have two choices for the first step.
Sketch out your profile.
Select the fixed face on the model.
Sheet metal parts are made with a constant thickness.
However in some circumstances when the design requires certain types of geometry you can use non sheet metal feature tools then insert bends or convert the part to sheet metal.

They start out as one flat sheet and then are cut and bent to make the final product.

Select keep body if you want to keep the solid body to use in another convert to sheet metal feature.
The fixed face remains in place when the part is flattened.
