Sometimes a roller would be used to pack down the clay.
The let the lame man down from teh roof top.
And when they had broken it up they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
The lame man had some very good friends.
4 and when they could not come nigh unto him for the press they uncovered the roof where he was.
You can be such a good friend.
To make a hole the men would have had to dig through the clay and remove some of the sticks.
And it was noised that he was in the house.
So they made a hole in the roof right above the place where jesus was.
They even pulled him up on top of the house and made a hole in the roof to bring him to jesus.
When they had made an opening they let the man down lying on his mat.
Probably the roof was so low that no ropes were needed to let the man down.
If your friend knows jesus you can encourage him or her.
So they made a hole in the roof above him and let the man down in front of everyone.
People inside the house could reach up and take him as those outside let him down.
1 and again he entered into capernaum after some days.
2 and straightway many were gathered together insomuch that there was no room to receive them no not so much as about the door.
This made for a hard clay roof.
We can learn a lesson about friendship from this story.
They were determined to get their friend to jesus.
5 when jesus saw their faith he said unto the sick of the palsy son thy sins be forgiven thee.
3 and they come unto him bringing one sick of the palsy which was borne of four.
And he preached the word unto them.
